Quickribbon The Field Service Officer: Australian Federal Police team site The Field Service Officer: Australian Federal Police team site

Australian Federal Police team site

This is some of the extreme tasks taken on by the Field Service Officer (F.S). In the construction of a teams site. Here we are in North western Cambodia in 1991 to support the local area of operations all the equipments must be flown in and you see the generator being under slung by a MI17 Helicopter, it's being flown by the aviation company Skylink. Its only the skilled flying by the pilot and  the direction of ourselves that the ton of generator finally gets into the back of the pick up.

That is only the beginning; the field service generator mechanics and electricians then must align it into the pre-built shed and connect her up. This will provide much needed power to the 4 or 8 and even up to 16 military observers that will occupy the team site for the duration of the UN mission.

The Australians and the rest of the multi national police officers along with the F.S team had a well earned cold one after the full team site installation was finished. Standard operating procedure and in the code of FS conduct the fridge gets plugged into a portable generator first so that first or second Beer would be cold. Makes sense eh! especially in 30c plus and the humidity at 80 percent.

Where was this place Thmar Pouk well; This team site was situated circa 50kms from the main provincial town of Sisaphon

Nowadays Thmar Puok is a forgotten little town that still has a small referral hospital and a very poor agricultural community. The children are grown up now but they still remember a great iron bird carrying a big box that came flying in, bringing the Australian Federal police team site members and Field Service specialists.
